Meet MARK MARTIN, Parade Grand Marshall

Mark Martin recently retired from the Chehalem Park & Recreation District (CPRD) after 38 years of making a living, and a life, doing something he has loved since childhood—Sports! He grew up in Palo Alto, CA, and while studying Recreation Administration at Chico State University accepted an internship at the newly created Chehalem Park & Recreation District in Newberg, OR. After the internship, he headed back to Chico to finish his studies (leaving Newberg the day Mt St. Helens blew!). A few short months later he was offered a full time job with CPRD.  He came back to Newberg, and has been here ever since.

Mark threw himself into creating recreational leagues and opportunities for kids and adults.  When he wasn’t organizing teams he was playing on them.  He played on various volleyball, basketball and softball teams. When he wasn’t playing games he was refereeing them—everything from soccer, to basketball to football.  He was also involved in various community organizations, including the Newberg Volunteer Fire Department.

He has had a front row seat to the incredible journey the Newberg community has been on. He is very proud to be the Grand Marshall for the 2018 Newberg Old Fashioned Festival—a festival created to celebrate all of this great community.  Go Giants!
